For shelters & rescues: a free adopter handout kit
You get animals adopted; we write pet-care guides. This page is our way of helping with the part that happens after the paperwork: a set of printable handouts you can give every adopter, free, forever. No sign-up, no catch, no affiliation - print what helps and ignore the rest.
๐ What's in the kit
Everything a first-time adopter should have ready before the animal comes home - supplies, safe spaces, first-week plan.
Open & print โ ๐ Vaccination & Vet RecordA clean one-page record adopters can keep filling in after the shelter's vetting - vaccines, treatments, vet visits.
Open & print โ ๐ House-Training LogA simple daily log that makes house-training a rescue dog systematic instead of frustrating.
Open & print โ ๐ Pet Care LogFeeding, meds, walks and notes in one place - useful for the chaotic first weeks and for multi-person households.
Open & print โ ๐ Pet First Aid CardsTen printable emergency cards (choking, poisoning, heatstroke, seizures and more) - signs, do's, never-do's, when to call the vet.
Open & print โ โ Questions to Ask Before You AdoptThe printable pre-adoption question list from our adoption guide - helps adopters arrive prepared, which makes your counselling conversation easier.
Open & print โโ Permission, in plain words
Shelters, rescues, fosters, vet clinics and adoption events may print and distribute these handouts freely and in any quantity, for any non-commercial animal-welfare purpose. You do not need to ask, credit us, or link back (though a mention is always appreciated). You may staple them into adoption folders, translate them for your community, and photocopy them until the toner runs dry. The only thing we ask is that you do not sell them or present them as veterinary advice - they are educational material, and every serious question belongs with a vet.
๐ค Want more than paper?
- Adoptable pets widget. Our adoption guide shows live adoptable animals from Petfinder's network - if your organization lists there, your animals may already appear in front of our readers.
- Tell us what's missing. If there is a handout that would genuinely help your adopters - a species we have not covered, a checklist you keep wishing existed - write to [email protected] and we will consider making it. Free, like the rest.
- Link to anything. Every guide, tool and printable on this site is free to link from your adoption pages - the free library lists the lot, and the adoption guide with its 3-3-3 first-month plan is written exactly for your adopters' first weeks.
From all of us at Fjords Team: thank you for the work you do. Shelter staff and volunteers carry the hardest part of pet ownership - the part where it went wrong through no fault of the animal - and anything on this site that lightens that load is doing its job.
